Max Wollgarten
PhD Student
I am a physics PhD student at RWTH Aachen University. During my master’s, I specialized in theoretical particle physics, in particular soft quantum chromodynamics. My first encounter with neuroscience-related topics came two years earlier, during my bachelor’s thesis. As machine learning advanced, my interest in this area grew, leading me to also study the statistical physics of neural networks over the past few years. Its present and future relevance motivated me to pursue a career in this field.

Maximilian Schwabe
PhD Student
I am a PhD student in physics at RWTH Aachen. In my master studies, I specialized in theoretical biophysics. Dealing with problems from applied machine learning and computational neuroscience during my Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis got me interested in how to ground a theory of structure formation in neural networks in concepts from statistical physics and dynamical systems theory. Right now, my focus lies on the statistical mechanics of RNNs in the feature-learning regime, as well as in building bridges between neural network theory and neurobiology.

Timm Vordermark
MSc Student
I am currently a physics master student at RWTH Aachen within the condensed matter theory track, writing my master thesis at Alexander van Meegen’s Lab. Previously I finished a M.Sc. in Finance at NOVA SBE in Lisbon after completing my Bachelor in Physics at RWTH. My research interests are in the area of statistical mechanics of neural networks, specifically focussing on the dynamics of Recurrent Neural Networks.
